MY STORY:

Shawn was always active in High School, but played basketball mostly. He tried cross-country but got bored and gave it up. Everything changed when he watched his wife (they were dating at the time) run the St. George Marathon and thought, “if she's done it, I have to do one”, 7 years later he actually did it. It wasn’t easy from the start however as Shawn was unable to finish his first marathon but with some encouragement he tried it again and crossing that finish line set off a switch in Shawn. Since then, it's always a countdown to the next race. He loves learning how the body works, trying new training methods and loves breaking through barriers.

Last year Shawn’s brother-in-law convinced him and his wife to run the Utah Grand Slam. After the first race, his brother-in-law and other friend dropped out. Shawn however, was addicted to the challenge of running 6 marathons in 6 months. This year Shawn has pushed myself further in more ways than he ever thought he could. Shawn says, “I love the battle you have with yourself to keep going; keep training at 530 in the morning, keep doing long runs, balance training and injury prevention, balance nutrition, and keep setting new PR's. There's something powerful about getting to your own boundaries and pushing past them to expand your abilities. I used to race against other people around me. Now I know better. The one that really matters to race against...is me.”
