Atlanta
Atlanta is a city that is rich with American pride. On November 11, 1864, Atlanta was burned to the ground during the American Civil War in order for General John Bell Hood to lead his army to the south. The only buildings spared were hospitals and churches. After the end of the war, Atlanta needed to be completely rebuilt. Because of this, Atlanta has a been paired with the phoenix, the symbol of resurrection and hope.
Not only is Atlanta home to many battles during the Civil War, but it also produced countless American legends. The movie, Gone with the Wind, was written by Atlanta native Margaret Mitchell. Furthermore, the author of the “I have a Dream” speech and leader of the civil rights movement, Martin Luther King Jr. was born and raised in Atlanta. Furthermore, Atlanta was the home of the 1996 Summer Olympic games. The host site, Centennial Olympic Park, is now one of the greatest attraction sites in Atlanta. |
