MY STORY:
Conrad, being a native New Zealander, grew up being more involved with the arts rather than athletics. However, upon entering college, Conrad decided to become a physical therapist and started his running career. In the beginning, he considered himself to be a participant in these races, not a competitive runner, but things have changed since then. After a life altering event 10 years ago, Conrad began to fully embrace the active lifestyle. Conrad currently belongs to the Palo Alto Run Club where he is surrounded by like-minded, positive athletes and is very grateful to have such a great support system. Because of all the training and positive influences in his life, Conrad has recently qualified for the IM World Championships and the 70.3 World Championships. He has even been featured on the cover of Inside Triathlon for his performance at the 2004 IM World Championships.
Conrad’s journey to the top of the triathlon world has not been as smooth as you can imagine. In his first triathlon, he was unable to finish the swimming portion and had to be plucked from the water by the rescue boat and placed back on the shore. Although the first part of the triathlon did not go as well as he would have hoped, Conrad still finished the race. Since then, his relationship with triathlons has blossomed. He is determined to finish every race and wants to inspire more people to embark on the active lifestyle. He is a great role model for those who think they are unable to compete in such a demanding sport because he has persevered through many obstacles and is continually getting better at his craft.
