Founded in 1847 by a group of Mormon pioneers led by their prophet, Brigham Young, Salt Lake City is the headquarters to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As the capital and most populous city in the state of Utah, Salt Lake City contains unmatched access to natural recreation, an active economy, dynamic nightlife and an amazing ski / snowboard season. All of these factors allow this major metropolitan area to have a real “small town feel” among its residents.

ATHLETE FAVORITES
Aaron Shamy What do you love about your city/market as an athlete?

"The best thing about living in SLC is that for people like me who love the outdoors there is an incredible wealth of diverse activities one has access to; Hiking, Climbing, River rafting, Skiing (snow & water) Sailing (on the Great Salt Lake) and much more."– Aaron Shamy
Marianne Burton

What is the best time of year to visit and why?

"Utah made a name for itself on a national and international level with the 2002 Winter Olympics. We have 13 gorgeous ski resorts, many of which are just minutes from the airport and downtown SLC. However, my favorite time of year is the summer, when there isn't much tourism, and you get the mountains to yourself. Utah has unbelievable hiking and biking through our many national parks (Zions, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon). Visitors can find a triathalon, marathon, or bike race nearly every weekend during the Spring/Summer months.”  - Marianne Burton

Travis Hess Favorite Local Race (Why is it your favorite?)

"Sunrise Duathlon - It sponsors the Hess Cancer Foundation, (www.hesscancer.org) and it goes up Butterfield Canyon (my favorite ride)." - Travis Hess
